SHERATON PRINCESS KAIULANI CELEBRATES 50 YEARS OF GRACIOUS HAWAIIAN HOSPITALITY

WAIKIKI BEACH, OAHU, HAWAII—Built on the former entrance to the Ainahau Estate, once home to Hawaii’s most beloved princess, the Sheraton Princess Kaiulani hotel is celebrating fifty years of welcoming visitors to Waikiki.  In honor its 50th anniversary, the hotel is offering a special 50th Anniversary room package for all rack rate bookings that are partial ocean view category and above.  The package includes tickets for two to attend the hotels “Creation – A Polynesian Journey” dinner show, a commemorative historical Princess Kaiulani book, and a 50th anniversary keepsake gift.  Book a four night minimum stay and receive the fourth night at $50.  Room rates start at $315 per night, double occupancy.  For reservations, call toll-free 1–888-488-3535 or visit www.starwoodhotels.com/hawaii.

The 1,152 room Sheraton Princess Kaiulani is in an area that was once known as Princess Kaiulani’s Ainahau Estate.  This 10-acre oasis boasted lush gardens, ponds and an elegant Victorian-style home.  Princess Kaiulani’s father, Archibald Cleghorn, Governor of Oahu and renowned botanist, planted many varieties of trees and flowers and built Japanese bridges over lily ponds.  The beautiful gardens were a sanctuary for the young princess, where she enjoyed riding her pony, and feeding the 50 or so peacocks that roamed the estate.

Sadly, the princess died of a lingering illness at age 23.  Princess Kaiulani’s legacy lives on and the Sheraton Princess Kaiulani was given its name in honor of Hawaii's most beloved monarch.
