ANNUAL HULA FESTIVAL HONORS PRINCESS KAIULANI
Each year in October, the Sheraton Princess Kaiulani hosts a week of special events honoring the legacy and birthday of its namesake, Princess Victoria Ka`iulani. Appropriately named Hana Ho`ohiwahiwa `O Ka`iulani (to celebrate and honor Ka`iulani), the commemoration week is scheduled for October 14 - 20, 2007. Each day of Hana Ho`ohiwahiwa `O Ka`iulani a different complimentary cultural activity including hula lessons, fresh flower lei making, ukulele lessons, wood crafting will be offered from on the hotel’s Dolphin Lanai. The climax of the weeklong celebration is the Princess Kaiulani Keiki Hula Festival in the Ainahau Showroom.
The popular festival showcases performances by over 200 keiki (children) ages 5 – 12 years old from various halau (hula schools) on the island of Oahu. This non-competitive hula festival is open to everyone and admission is free.
An arts and crafts fair in the Ainahau Lobby scheduled for the same morning from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. offers an opportunity to purchase locally handcrafted items, including Hawaiian jewelry, instruments, hula ornaments, feather leis and seed bracelets or browse among numerous tables displaying crafts by island artisans.
